En una conferencia de prensa posterior al duelo Tigres contra Santos, la prensa consultó al técnico lagunero, el portugués Pedro Caixinha sobre el desempeño del club. Sin embargo, para sorpresa de todos, el entrenador tenía la espada desenvainada para responder los cuestionamientos.

Uno de los colegas le consultó por el sistema táctico utilizado y si el equipo lagunero no lo estaba comprendiendo. Con la voz fuerte y desafiante el entrenador contestó con otra pregunta, queriendo hacer al reportero definir el sistema de juego del equipo.

Herculez Gomez is Chicano proud, and famous

LAS VEGAS – They stood in the foyer of the buffet restaurant at the extravagant Mandalay Bay Hotel, waiting for a pause in the conversation so they could swoop in for a photo.

Herculez Gomez shot a glance at the smiling fans, wearing the green and white of Santos Laguna, the 2012 Clausura champions crowned in May. He politely asked them, in Spanish, to wait until he was done with the interview.

That Gomez, home in Vegas over the weekend to play in Santos Laguna’s friendly against Real Madrid, even had a few minutes to do a one-on-one interview was almost a miracle. There was family to see, appearances to make, routines to stick to, meetings and of course droves of adoring fans who wanted to able to say they kicked it with a Liga MX (Mexican First Division) star forward.

Mexican rivalry intensifies with Primera Division title at stake

The playoffs in Mexico’s Primera Division of soccer held form, and it’s No. 1 vs. No. 2  for the Clausura championship this week.

Monterrey against Santos Laguna. Fans have seen this before, as recently as a few weeks ago. The Rayados and Guerreros played a two-leg series for the CONCACAF region club championship, won by Monterrey on aggregate goals.

Mexico’s futbol Final Four has no clear favorite

The balance of power in Mexican soccer is in the north of the country, with Monterrey and its crosstown rivals UANL Tigres plus Santos Laguna of Torreon in the semifinals of the liguilla, or First Division playoffs, of the Clausura season.

The fourth team is one fans either love to hate or love with a passion, Club America from Mexico City.

Monterrey is kings of the hill in CONCACAF
