Nueva York - Una cosa es pasar por la mala racha durante una series de partidos en la temporada regular. Los bateadores de los Yankees han escogido la temporada para hacerlo y si no despiertan fácilmente pueden ser víctimas de una barrida en la serie del campeonato contra los Tigres de Detroit.

Si no hubiese sido por la jugada hecha por Derek Jeter cuando J.J. Hardy bateo un rodado despacio con las bases llenas, los Yankees quizás estuvieran de vacaciones esta noche y no en Detroit para el tercer juego de la serie.

Sin embargo, la ofensiva aun sigue batallando, tratando de conseguir ese batazo para despertar los restos de los bates.

A final MLB day of the regular season to remember

The debate was on, the one between President Obama and “Guante” Romney (stolen from George Lopez). But it didn’t matter to me.

I know who I’m voting for. I was much more preoccupied with the heavy heart I had for the end of baseball’s regular season.

Driving home early Wednesday evening, the lights of Chase Field in Phoenix twinkled a short distance away. The season finale was in the eighth inning, and when those lights were turned off, they were to stay off for a long while.

What a final day of the season it had been. Ben Sheets got to pitch for the Atlanta Braves in Pittsburgh, and at game’s end retired from baseball. Chipper Jones heard cheers in PNC Park for the last regular-season game of his career.  Bobby Valentine, the manager of the Boston Red Sox for maybe his last day, lashed out at coaches who he felt undermined him as the Sox muddled their way through a nightmare season.

Nuestro Equipo: And All-Latino All-Star Team Para Ti

We know that Latino players have been a huge part of baseball for decades. The tradition continues into 2012, and the talent improves as the talent pool grows.

I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know.

We’re at a point now, and probably have been for a few years, where an entire Latino Major League Baseball All-Star Team from both leagues can be fielded. So  let’s get right to it. All stats are as of the beginning of the day June 29.

American League

First base: Albert Pujols. Angels. Got off to a horrible start this season but is turning it around, and even if he doesn’t make it to the All-Star Game in 2012, he’s been there, done that so many times.
